Course Information
Overview: Hosted by Mike Porteous, this informal session will share lived experiences from two-time Olympian fencer and Director of Mentoring at The True Athlete Project Laurence Cassøe Halsted. Laurence’s current role as Director of Mentoring allows him to explore the most valuable and meaningful aspects of a life in sport, together with an amazing collection of people. Laurence believes we can unleash far more of our potential, as individuals and groups, through a better understanding of what drives us as humans. This requires tapping into our deepest sense of purpose and meaning in life, along the way connecting us more closely with nature and with each other. The session will include a conversation between Mike and Laurance as they share their experiences of compassionate coaching. The session will also allow for questions and conversations amongst those joining the session.
Mike Porteous Mike runs a swim, bike, run and triathlon coaching business: ZigZag Alive. He is also a British Triathlon mentor, including for coaches on the High Performing Coach Programme (HPCP). Mike was the Head Coach at Brighton Tri Club, leading a team of 25 coaches. He has a special interest in confidence and its central place in great coaching practice - a book on the way for coaches across all sports. At the last Performance Learning Week Mike ran a workshop on Protecting Our Coaching Energy.
Laurence Cassøe Halsted Two-time Olympic fencer, having competed for Team GB in the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Games. Upon hanging up his swords in 2016, Laurence moved directly into a role as Performance Director of a national federation, and at the start of 2022 he transitioned into a new career involving a combination of mentoring, coaching and consultancy.
